HOW DO I IDENTIFY GENUINE BREEDERS?
Regrettably, Australia has seen a rise in "kitten scams" and unethical "kitten farms" that seek to exploit the popularity of the Ragdoll breed for financial gain. To ensure that you adopt a healthy and ethically bred kitten, it is crucial to avoid such breeders. The following criteria can serve as a valuable guide when assessing potential breeders:
-
Pedigree Certification: Reputable breeders will provide pedigree certificates for their kittens. Be cautious of those who offer excuses, such as stating that "pedigrees are unnecessary for pets," as this is not a legitimate reason. The only way to guarantee that you are adopting a genuine Ragdoll is by obtaining a certified pedigree. Pedigrees can be authenticated by recognized cat associations such as ANCATS (View Here) and NSW Cat Fanciers Association (View Here).
-
Proof of Health Testing: Ethical breeders will provide documentation of DNA tests conducted on the kitten's parents, confirming that they are negative for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM).
-
Transparency and Communication: Trustworthy breeders are open to answering questions, willingly share information about their breeding program, and are committed to maintaining transparency in their breeding practices.
-
Visitation Before Deposit: Ethical breeders allow prospective buyers to visit their cats and kittens before requiring any deposit.
WHAT ARE PEDIGREE CERTIFICATES AND WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT ?
Pedigree papers are essentially the birth certificates of a cat, offering a comprehensive family tree that typically extends across three to five generations. These documents are the definitive proof of a cat's purebred status. In addition to documenting lineage, pedigree papers also detail the accomplishments of a cat's ancestors, including their success in competitions and any titles they have earned.
For cat owners, pedigree papers represent more than just a document; they are a tangible connection to the cat's heritage, encapsulating the legacy of the cats that preceded the one they now hold. In Australia, the oldest and most reputable pedigree papers, recognized both nationally and internationally, are those issued by Australian National Cats Inc (ANCATS), established in 1984.
WHY IS DNA TESTING OF THE KITTENS PARENTS IMPORTANT?
The establishment of any breed is achieved through a process known as "selective breeding," where breeders choose individuals exhibiting desirable traits to produce offspring. A distinct breed is formed when this process is repeated across multiple generations, consistently selecting for specific traits. However, selective breeding presents challenges in maintaining good genetic variability and overall health within a population. This is because the focus on certain traits can inadvertently lead to the accumulation of unhealthy genes within the breed.
To mitigate this risk, it is crucial to test breeding parents for genetic health. All of our breeding cats, therefore, come with a certificate of genetic health, ensuring they are free from PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) and HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) genes, which are unfortunately prevalent in Ragdoll cats bred without proper oversight.

WHAT ARE MINK RAGDOLLS ?
The Mink Ragdoll is a special part of the Ragdoll family, with a lineage that traces back to the very first cats that started the breed. The name "mink" comes from the incredible texture of their fur—it’s even softer and smoother than that of a regular Ragdoll. Mink Ragdolls also have fur that’s more vibrant in color, and their eyes have a captivating aqua or green hue, instead of the traditional dark blue. These unique traits make Mink Ragdolls truly stand out, adding an extra touch of magic to an already enchanting breed.

We believe in giving each of our kittens the love and attention they deserve, which is why we carefully limit ourselves to a maximum of four litters per year.
